Diogenes

The Diogenes project consisted in creating a small habitat (20m2) to house two people as independent from the energy grid as possible. The site for my project was Beijing so I chose to conceive a symbiotic organism that would fit on the roof of an existing building. Since a new law allowing for the construction of dwellings on the roof of large buildings such as malls had just passed in Beijing I decided to implant my project in such a context. By collecting the heat generated from the dry-cooler ventilation system the project fulfills its needs in heating all year long, the rest of its energy coming from solar panels on its roof. The other issue the project deals with is the intense air pollution in Beijing, it uses a filter developed by the University of Calgary to turn the CO2 in the air into a solid. Therefore the small dwelling becomes safer and healthier than the environment outside of it.
