True South in Aubervilliers
The project's plot being north to the Aubervilliers Fort, the views from the site are unobstructed to the south and offer a panoramic view over Paris. The maximum volume allowed by the urbanism department being really restrictive, the projects aims at exploiting the plots to its maximum potential. In order to do so, the building's is shaped like a third of a cylinder to maximize the surface of the south facade and minimize the size of the north facade. Accordingly, each apartment has naturally lit living room with a panoramic view and the building is far more thermally efficient. The building's structure consists of 7 shear walls dividing each floor into six apartments. The south facade has two skins: The exterior skin is comprised of photovoltaic railings, translucent folding louvers and brise soleils for the double height apartments. The interior skin is comprised of several full height sliding windows allowing the living room and the blacony to become one continuous space in the summer. Rolling shutters are also installed to manage the interior temperature. All in all, the project optimises the site's qualities from the urban to the domestic scale.
