Nakano, Tokyo
The 2000 inhabitants with 2000 Watts project focuses on the virtuous evolution of a neighborhood until 2050. In order to do so a neighborhood is delimited. Since the demographic evolution of Tokyo is expected to plummet in the following years (-30% in 2050) The neighborhood chosen for the project has 3000 inhabitants in order to offer a realistic estimation of the years to come. The project aims at giving guidelines for the progressive dedensification of the neighborhood through landscaping and urban planning. Since the neighborhood also suffers from heat island effect and a lack of green spaces, the project offers to resolve all these problems at once. The current tendency in terms of urban evolution is the densification along the main streets and the abandonment of the single story houses we envision the neighborhood's future to go along in the same fashion. The plots left vacant by their previous inhabitants in the
center of the site will be reconverted into parks, agricultural parcels and energy production spaces. The spaces in between the one or two story houses are filled with winter gardens and energy production structures that act as a parasismic fuse. Inside the park, several gardens exhibit the different problematics envolved in the city's evolution such as local and organic agriculture aswell as clean energy production and consumption, through entertaining activities. Some of the agricultural parcels will be managed by elderly people that want to earn some extra money and transmit their knowledge on the subject. One of the gardens will also let people produce their own mechanical energy (charging their phones by pedaling on a bike for example) to make them realize how valuable the energy they consume really is.
